A Whole New Meaning to Happy Hour

According to Wikipedia, “Happy Hour is a marketing term for a period of time in which a restaurant or bar offers discounts on alcoholic drinks, such as beer, wine, and cocktails. Typically, it is in the late afternoon Monday through Thursday, usually taking place at some period between 4 PM and 7 PM.   The term Happy Hour also is commonly used to describe the gathering of work colleagues at a restaurant or bar after work hours, possibly outside the period of 4 PM and 7 PM.

Since I don’t drink and never have, happy hour has a whole different meaning to me.   I virtually always run or work out in the morning, so my happy hour starts the day.   It is literally a “happy hour”, which you would understand better if you were a runner and had experienced “runner’s high” during which I am feeling elated that I ran or I oftentimes get the same feeling even when I work out out.   Doing a Beachbody workout DVD like P90X or P90X + or Chalean Extreme gives me a sense of accomplishment that would make anyone happy for the next hour!

But I don’t just have a happy mind.   In the 15:00 – 30:00 (the best opportunity to refuel your body) after I run or workout, I always have a drink or a mixed drink.   What, you say!   Yes, I have water and also mix up a brimming full glass of Shakeology – either straight up or as a mixed drink!   Shakeology straight out of the bag and mixed in my case with almond milk is great tasting and super nutritious with its 70 healthy ingredients.   But if I have done a particularly long or hard workout, I will add more total calories by adding some plain yogurt, peanut butter and perhaps some fruit that needs to be used up or maybe frozen blueberries or raspberries if there are some.

Not only is my mind happy and my spirits high from the “workout high”, but I also have a very happy and well nourished body, too.   Next time that you are planning on going to happy hour, why don’t you make your own happy hour at home with a great workout and a super healthy Shakeology “mixed drink”!
