Your Belly Fat Has a Mind of its Own

The original titles of this post was, “Hormonal Changes and Visceral Fat”, but who would have read it.   Nobody is interested in what doctors and researchers have to say.   That’s why so many people choose to live lives devoid of physical activity and chow down on the worst foods imaginable.

But what if you thought that your body was inhabited by an alien?   Would you do something then about what is getting in the way of you seeing your feet?   We aren’t talking about the fat that is just below the skin and protects us from the cold.   Subcutaneous fat, located between the skin and the abdominal wall, is more visible but also less likely to be a health risk.   We are talking about belly fat or, more precisely, visceral fat.   According to the Mayo Clinic, “Visceral fat lies deeper inside the abdomen, surrounding the abdominal organs. Gaining this type of fat has been linked to cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other health problems.”

Your belly fat literally has a mind of its own and has the ability to change your body and negatively impact your health.   Again, according to the Mayo Clinic, “Researchers also have found that abdominal fat cells aren’t just dormant energy waiting to be burned up. The cells are active, producing hormones and other substances that can affect your health. For example, some fat-cell-produced hormones can promote insulin resistance, a precursor to type 2 diabetes; others can produce estrogen after menopause, which may increase your breast cancer risk. Researchers are still sorting out how the excess hormones affect overall health, but they do know that too much visceral fat can disrupt the body’s normal hormonal balance.”

If you care about your health and well being, you may want to start thinking seriously about doing something about looking like you are pregnant when you aren’t, or, in the case of men, can’t be…
