I Committed to Run 1,000 Miles in 2018

Just an FYI – I don’t drink, ever.  You may wonder then why I commented in a post in Mark Zuckerberg’s “A Year of Running” group on New Year’s Day that I was going to try to run 1,000 miles in 2018.  Frankly, I don’t know why because it didn’t seem like a big deal when I wrote it.  Years ago, I would run 3 times that many miles in a year.  Now I am faced with a stark reality – it’s not going to be hard to do!

To compound matters, I saw a challenge in Strava to “Run 1,000 Miles in 2018”.  The challenge originates in London, so why it isn’t in kilometers, I don’t know.  If it was a 1,000 kilometer challenge, it would be so much easier, but it’s not.

The people who started the challenge broke the challenge down and seeing what I have to do is what is causing me to lose sleep (not really).

2.74 miles per day
19.23 miles per week
83.33 miles per month

At the time that I am writing this, there are 25,170 members and trust me, I’m not on the leaderboard of the top 100 and will never be, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not going to try to reach the goal.

It’s embarrassing that I have to work hard to run 20 miles a week, but so what.  At my age, I’m just thankful to be alive and running.

So to be accountable, I am including two widgets from Strava.  One is daily workouts and the other is total activity.  Note that these don’t include my strength workouts or yoga – it is running only.

So here they are and I’m putting these out there because I said that I was going to try and none of us will ever accomplish anything without trying, right!
