Guiding You to Your Optimum Quality of Life

Healthy Eating Out Strategies for Success

Whether you are attending a party, family gathering, or a night out on the town, you can still indulge in lots of fun and feel great without overeating or unhealthy choices with these eating out strategies.

Healthy eating is crucial in living a peaceful and balanced life. It is a lifelong commitment that requires discipline and changing your eating patterns. Eating suitable foods in an appropriate quantity allows us to fuel our bodies, live longer lives, fight off curable diseases, prevent damage to our body’s cells, and even keeps us beautiful!

Maintaining sensible eating every day will make you feel great! A hearty breakfast can keep you going through the day, and should never be skipped. Stock up on your vegetables, proteins and whole grains. Before going out to an event, make sure you have maintained eating small meals every 2-3 hours to keep your metabolism and sugar levels even, and drink plenty of water throughout the day. Have a healthy snack prior to leaving for your fun, combining a whole grain and protein to keep you fuller longer, such as cheese or nuts with crackers, or my favorite choice, Shakeology. If possible, your dinner should be eaten early to avoid putting an extra strain on your digestive system while you are trying to sleep.

After making the reservations at your favorite restaurant, use these tips. Drink a glass of water as you’re looking over the menu to help you feel fuller before your meal. Bread baskets can be trouble, so take a slice, and then move it out of sight. If craving a cocktail, it’s best to select simple and not “mix it up”, as stated in a previous blog article, “Crazy About Cocktails? Good vs. Bad Choices”. Selecting your meal can be tricky, especially with a large menu. Make it easy by including a lean protein (turkey, chicken, seafood) and vegetables avoiding cream based soups, mixed dishes, casseroles, and deep fried foods. Ask for all gravies, sauces, and dressings to be put in side dishes. Since portions have become supersized, cut your meal in half when served and take the leftovers home for another meal, or think about sharing a meal.

Gatherings with a set menu or buffet style eating can lead to sabotaging your meal plan. Begin your buffet challenge by using one dinner plate and not filling up the whole area. Take only one mouthful of any item of buffet, and do not get any second servings.

Dessert time doesn’t have to be dreadful. Eat in small amounts, moderation or just eliminate them altogether for a little while. Consuming high levels of sweets will not only add extra pounds, but will also lower your immune system defenses.

Proper nutrition must be followed throughout the year. Eating a balanced diet will provide enough nourishment to stay fit, in combination with regular exercise. Proper exercise helps regulate your eating habits. You will not be as hungry after a good workout, and the calories you burn while exercising help you lose weight faster.
