Do you know why you do what you do – your “why” that everyone says that you have to have to be successful? Do you know why things have happened in your life that have changed the course of your life and you didn’t understand until some time later?
My “why” for being your coach has always been to provide the best support, guidance, inspiration and accountability that I can to you. In January, I will have been doing this for 5 years and I absolutely love what I do. My other why has always been to have the opportunity to be a work at home dad and to spend as much time with my family as I possibly can. I have big “whys”!
During the last 26 + years, though, I have had some very significant health challenges that have made doing what I love to do difficult at times and almost impossible at others. Yet I never knew why I was struggling so much to achieve my “whys” until late yesterday afternoon.
In early June, I had a tooth fracture and my dentist said that the tooth was fine and it just needed a crown. But I started feeling lousy shortly thereafter and put a hold on the crown until I could resolve what was causing my malaise.
To make a long story short, much to my dentist’s dismay, I had the tooth extracted but that didn’t make either the pain go away or my health return.
Well, that was over 2 months ago and it wasn’t until yesterday that my dentist explained what I was feeling and how what I was feeling was not dental, but rather from my left sinus which had been operated on 23 years ago. He said that the surgeon had damaged and removed the mucous membrane that continuously produces antibodies to fight infection. In effect, I have no way to fight off infection in that sinus and that is why I have had well over 100 sinus infections and low grade infections in that sinus and never in my right sinus. Here’s a good article that explains how the sinus works.
Now I had a “why” and more determination than ever to help you as my members to be fit and healthy. I had the surgery after a serious car accident in 1985 and now I know why my competitive running career was cut short and derailed. Now I know why I had to quit my job and become a personal trainer back in the ’90’s. Now I know why I became a Team Beachbody Coach.
A terrible mistake by a surgeon in 1988 has given me all of the blessings that I have gotten in my life since then and now it all makes sense. Although the membrane cannot be replaced, I can irrigate my sinus daily with salt water and that will help cut way down on infections.
And I can move forward in my life knowing that if I redouble my efforts as a coach, I will be able to help so many more people, not just with my story, but with my passionate desire to help as many of you be healthy as I possibly can. Health is a blessing and something that we should never lose and always try to get back if we have lost it.
Sincerely,
