Today was not a good day for me to work out. Each morning, before anything else, I do a Polar orthostatic test with my Polar V800 and then I do a heart rate variability test with the Elite HRV app. Today I was a “5” with abnormally elevated parasympathetic activity.
According to Science Daily, “The parasympathetic nervous system is one of three divisions of the autonomic nervous system. Sometimes called the rest and digest system, the parasympathetic system conserves energy as it slows the heart rate, increases intestinal and gland activity, and relaxes sphincter muscles in the gastrointestinal tract.”
You can also read more in this Wikipedia article here. Hopefully I will bounce back and be able to train again tomorrow.
Just as an FYI, I use the Polar H7 Bluetooth Heart Rate Sensor & Fitness Tracker with the Elite HRV app. You can learn more about heart rate variability here.
