Lying Leg Curls for the
Hamstrings
1. The leg curl can be
performed lying on a bed / bench or standing. When lying on a bed, lie on your
stomach with arms at your sides and legs straight.
2. Slowly bend the lower leg at the knee, bringing your
foot toward your buttocks. Stop at the point at which you cannot comfortably go
further. Make sure to squeeze the muscles of the rear leg (also known as the
hamstrings) while performing the entire upward movement. Hold at this point for
one second.
3. Return your leg to the
starting position.
This will constitute
one repetition. When doing this exercise standing, use a wall or chair for
balance. Lift one foot off the floor toward the buttocks and hold for one
second. Lower the leg to the floor and repeat the motion for 10 - 15
repetitions, then do the same with the other leg. You may use ankle weights if
you wish to increase the resistance. Make sure to exhale when lifting the leg,
and inhale when lowering the leg. |
