Just because you can't
make it to the gym on some days (or nights), doesn't mean you have to deprive
your body of a good workout. If you truly want to slim down and tone up by
summer, you'll need to find time to exercise, one way or another. When a trip
to the gym is just not going to happen, in-home training is a great option. You
may not have your favorite state-of-the-art treadmill with all the bells and
whistles, but you will have the assurance of a quick and convenient workout. To
make the most of your in-home fitness routine so you can be fit year round, use
these five simple tips to get started.
1.
Find your space. Clear and open is the way to go when looking
for the best spot to exercise at home. You don't need an airport-hanger sized
room, but you will need enough space to take two broad steps in each direction
. . . unless of course your favorite form of exercise is pole vaulting.

2.
Plug it in. Nowadays, there are a variety of outstanding
fitness videos that can really get you exceptional results. For this reason,
your workout space should have a TV and DVD player (or VHS for those of you
still living in the '90s).

3.
Get on the BANDwagon. A quality workout band is a great tool
for variable resistance training and can be used safely in most every room. If
you prefer using weights, go with a set of adjustable dumbbells (up to 25 lbs.
each).

4.
Leave the hardwood to the basketball players. A soft surface
is the best way to go when exercising at home. If your workout space is not
carpeted, consider getting a quality exercise mat that will absorb the shock to
your joints and tendons.

5.
Avoid weapons of mass distractions. That means the phone, the
kids, the dog, the doorbell, and anything else that will interrupt your 30 to
60 minutes of sweat time. Unless you see flames emanating from the kitchen,
make it a point to focus on the task at hand and get through your routine
without any interruptions. |
