Which is why so many people start \u2014 and fail \u2014 at New Year\u2019s resolutions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Let\u2019s Do Something Different<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We propose a new tradition, one in which we replace the New Year\u2019s ritual of guilty goal-setting, deprivation, and eventual failure with a month spent appreciating ourselves for who we are and the small choices we can make to enhance our lives.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s called World Health Esteem Month, a month of paying attention to how 10 tiny daily moments can help steer us toward the life we want to live.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health Esteem Is a Skill You Can Learn<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Practicing Health Esteem leads to better choices.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of working out because you\u2019re unsatisfied with yourself, you exercise because you value yourself. Instead of making food choices to punish yourself into weight loss or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/how-to-cope-with-emotional-eating?referringrepid=1393\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eating your emotions<\/a>\u00a0without regard for the consequences to how you\u2019ll feel, you will start to make choices in support of taking care of yourself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You Can\u2019t Fail at Health Esteem<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Regardless of how consistent you are, every day of January is an opportunity to succeed. And it\u2019s as simple as checking in on 10 Tiny Moments that can have a dramatic impact on your Health Esteem.<\/p>\n<p>Print or bookmark this list, and give it a try. Spend the first month of 2023 celebrating who you are and, for once, feel great about you from day one!<\/p>\n<h2>10 Tiny Moments in Your Daily Health Esteem Routine<\/h2>\n<h3>1. Wake Up on the First Alarm<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bod-blog-assets.prod.cd.beachbodyondemand.com\/bod-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/16151713\/wake-up.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-153232 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/bod-blog-assets.prod.cd.beachbodyondemand.com\/bod-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/16151713\/wake-up.jpg\" alt=\"woman waking to morning light | health esteem\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A truly tiny moment \u2014 but powerful! Then you\u2019re going to start the day behind, which leads to low Health Esteem (how often do you beat yourself up for doing this)? But if you can get up on the first alarm, you will immediately start the day with high Health Esteem.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Do the Hardest Thing First<\/h3>\n<p>What\u2019s something that you hope to do, but you think you might rationalize blowing it off? Do that first.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe it\u2019s your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/plans\/offers_bod?referringrepid=1393&amp;utm_campaign=bod_article_links&amp;utm_content=default&amp;utm_medium=body_link&amp;utm_source=blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">daily workout<\/a>. This leads to lethargy and feeling \u201cbehind,\u201d a.k.a. low Health Esteem.<\/p>\n<p>Make time for a breakfast that serves your goals for the morning and you are making time for YOU, and that gives you high Health Esteem.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Replace Dirty Energy With Clean Energy<\/h3>\n<p>So many of our morning energy options are filled with chemical sweeteners, preservatives, and artificial colors that, instead of providing a simple boost from caffeine, actually pack toxins that the body will eventually have to find a way to process.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s adding to the daily stress we\u2019re already living, and the feeling of low Health Esteem. Alternatives that are clean, tested for toxins, and certified can give you the lift you\u2019re looking for \u2014 without the toxins \u2014 in addition to high Health Esteem.<\/p>\n<h3>5. Swap Afternoon Treats for Superfood Desserts<\/h3>\n<p>Around 3 p.m. is when you are most likely to reach for a snack to satisfy a sweet tooth or hunger craving. You\u2019re working hard. You deserve a treat. Your morning caffeine has worn off. You get that \u201csweet tooth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Discipline is a good muscle to exercise if the urge is just a habit. But maybe you do need a bridge to get you through the day.<\/p>\n<p>The answer isn\u2019t to deprive yourself. The answer is to swap out unhealthy treats (like processed snacks or a sugar-loaded coffee drinks) for a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/shakeology-desserts?referringrepid=1393\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Superfood Dessert<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 a healthy snack with protein, superfoods, and fiber. The irony is, the people who give positive energy to others also end up getting positive energy back.<\/p>\n<p>When you are depleted of positive energy you feel like you have the lowest Health Esteem. So look for how you can give positive energy \u2014 boost your Health Esteem, and boost someone else\u2019s too.<\/p>\n<h3>8. Do a Post-Work Reflection<\/h3>\n<p>Think about how much you do in a day: You work through tasks, you interact with other people, you solve problems, you put out fires, you celebrate small wins and then you get right back to work.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t take the time to acknowledge all that you do in a day, it\u2019s easy to take it all for granted \u2014 or worse, never give yourself any credit. This is the definition of unhappiness and it\u2019s the source of burnout.<\/p>\n<p>So, before you leave the office, before you shut your laptop for the day, answer three questions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>What\u2019s one thing you accomplished today?<\/li>\n<li>What\u2019s one new question you are excited to answer tomorrow?<\/li>\n<li>What\u2019s one thing you appreciated about yourself today?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>9. If you can slow down and make it an intentional experience, you create a nice transition from your day, and it will even help improve digestion\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/chew-your-food-more?referringrepid=1393\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">if you eat slower<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Take a moment to look at all you and your family have done today. Take a moment to appreciate the food and savor it.<\/p>\n<p>The very meaning of the word \u201cappreciate\u201d is to increase in value. Something as tiny as slowing dinners down to truly live in the moment will raise your Health Esteem.<\/p>\n<h3>10. \u201cNo-Screens\u201d 30 Minutes Before Bed<\/h3>\n<p>How you feel tomorrow starts tonight.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/what-is-blue-light?referringrepid=1393\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blue light<\/a>\u00a0and distractions of phones, TV, and computers before bed disrupt the production of melatonin and your sleep cycle. When your sleep gets ruined it\u2019s hard to wake up with high Health Esteem.<\/p>\n<p>Consider some reading or journaling. Talk and connect with your partner, your kids, or a loved one.<\/p>\n<p>When\u2019s the last time you went outside and looked up at the night sky?
