Hold Off On Buying Candy<\/h3>\n<p>Buy candy for trick-or-treaters as close to Halloween night as you can.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving treats in the house is a huge temptation and can cost you extra money if you have to go buy more,\u201d says Ann Marion Willis, an R.D. in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Buy Less Candy, Give Out More<\/h3>\n<p>And while you\u2019re at the store, \u201cbuy less than you think you will need,\u201d advises Willis. \u201cThis will help you avoid having leftovers hanging around the house. It\u2019s better for you to run out of treats than to be left eating them yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you find that your Halloween candy bowl is still full as the night goes on, start handing out more candy to each costumed kiddo that rings your doorbell.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ll be thrilled, and you\u2019ll be saved!<\/p>\n<h3>3. Buy the Stuff You Like the Least<\/h3>\n<p>One simple way to prevent yourself from eating leftover candy is to buy stuff you don\u2019t like, whether that\u2019s candy corn, atomic fireballs, or Good &amp; Plenty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuying what you don\u2019t like will make you less likely to indulge and reduce the urge you have to sample treats as you hand them out on Halloween,\u201d says Willis.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Eat Well<\/h3>\n<p>Sugar cravings can strike when you\u2019re hungry and haven\u2019t consumed enough fuel to keep your blood sugar in balance.<\/p>\n<p>Eat protein and fiber-rich meals in the days before and after Halloween, advises Willis. It\u2019ll make you feel less tempted to create a dinner out of mini candy bars.<\/p>\n<h3>5. Savor a Single Treat<\/h3>\n<p>Mindless eating is a good way to eat way more than you mean to \u2014\u00a0whether that\u2019s nuts, chips, or candy.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than sitting in from of your TV munching your way through a bag of chocolate, try\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/can-being-more-mindful-help-you-lose-weight?referringrepid=1393\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mindful eating<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Select the\u00a0<em>one<\/em>\u00a0piece of candy that you most want to eat. Tune out all other distractions and focus on savoring the experience of eating it. Chew slowly, let it melt in your mouth, enjoy the sweetness, and notice how it makes you feel.<\/p>\n<p>Cutting that piece of candy into smaller pieces will make the experience last longer, and may even make you\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/21515120\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">feel like you\u2019re eating more<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Make your piece of candy go even further by chopping it into tiny pieces and sprinkling the bits on top of plain Greek yogurt.<\/p>\n<h3>6. Keep Your Mouth Minty Fresh<\/h3>\n<p>I\u2019ve had adult braces for months and my candy consumption \u2014 especially the chewy, sticky stuff like caramels and gummy bears \u2014 has drastically decreased.<\/p>\n<p>Installing orthodontic hardware just to avoid eating candy is a pretty drastic solution, but brushing your teeth can be a similar deterrent.<\/p>\n<p>When you\u2019re tempted to unwrap handfuls of Halloween loot, give your pearly whites a quick brush to curb your urge.<\/p>\n<h3>7. Just Chuck It<\/h3>\n<p>This will likely put you in the running for\u00a0<i>Worst Parent\u00a0<\/i><i>Ever<\/i>, but Wills says, \u201cAsk your kids to choose their favorite treats and then donate or throw away the rest. The longer treats stay in the house uneaten, the more likely you are to give in to temptation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some dentists now offer to buy candy off kids in exchange for cash.
