Healthy food has a reputation for being a wallet buster, but you can eat well on a budget if you plan ahead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re on a budget, you can opt for recipes and foods that are less expensive,\u201d says Maguire. \u201cFor example, choosing chicken over steak should save some money, or eggs instead of fish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bulk foods are usually more affordable than pre-packaged foods, so Maguire recommends buying\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/pantry-staples-for-healthy-eating?referringrepid=1393\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pantry staples<\/a>\u00a0like grains, beans, nuts, and spices in bulk.<\/p>\n<p>And don\u2019t pay for the convenience of pre-chopped fruits, veggies, and salad mixes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSticking to whole foods instead of packaged items is a great way to lighten the total grocery bill,\u201d Maguire says.<\/p>\n<p>It may take some extra time to prep your foods, but your wallet will thank you.<\/p>\n<h2>The Best Staple Foods to Add to Your Basic Grocery List<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bod-blog-assets.prod.cd.beachbodyondemand.com\/bod-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/22171812\/Basic-Grocery-List.600.fruit_.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" last-minute healthy meal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are so many things you can do with chicken breast, ground turkey, eggs, and organic tofu,\u201d says Maguire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlso, [stock up on] a variety of canned beans \u2014 like garbanzo beans to make hummus, or black beans to throw in a breakfast taco or on top of a salad or into a mixed grain and veggie bowl, she adds.<\/p>\n<p>And make sure you always have the ingredients you need to make the healthy treats you (and your taste buds) love.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome staples I find myself always buying include oatmeal, bananas, almond milk, nut butter, walnuts, eggs, avocado, and sprouted bread,\u201d says Maguire.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the healthy staples you need.<\/p>\n<h3>For the refrigerator and freezer:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Fresh fruit (\u201cIt\u2019s nice to have some you can grab for on-the-go snacks like bananas or apples,\u201d says Maguire.)<\/li>\n<li>Frozen fruit<\/li>\n<li>Fresh veggies<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/why-frozen-and-canned-fruits-veggies-are-good-too?referringrepid=1393\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frozen veggies<\/a>\u00a0(\u201cMy freezer staples include frozen riced cauliflower, frozen kale, and broccoli,\u201d says Staton.)<\/li>\n<li>Protein of choice (chicken, fish, steak, organic tempeh, organic tofu, canned tuna, or salmon)<\/li>\n<li>Milk or an unsweetened non-dairy milk alternative<\/li>\n<li>Unsweetened plain Greek yogurt<\/li>\n<li>Eggs (ideally\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/guide-to-egg-nutrition-facts?referringrepid=1393\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local or pasture-raised eggs<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>For the
