These are antibodies on the mucosal membranes, such as the respiratory tract.<\/p>\n<p>These antibodies are needed to battle bacteria and viruses.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.acsm.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The American College of Sports Medicine<\/a>\u00a0(ACSM), moderate physical activity done every day, such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.teambeachbody.com\/bod-offer?ICID=BLOG_BOD_3WYR&amp;referringrepid=1393&amp;refsource=Blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">yoga<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/how-to-run-your-first-10k-race?referringrepid=1393\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">jogging<\/a>, is the most effective way to keep the immune system strong.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6675\" src=\"https:\/\/howtobefit.com\/coach-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Should-You-Work-Out-if-Youre-Sick.600.jpg\" alt=\"Working Out When Sick\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/howtobefit.com\/coach-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Should-You-Work-Out-if-Youre-Sick.600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/howtobefit.com\/coach-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Should-You-Work-Out-if-Youre-Sick.600-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Experts Recommend Working Out When Sick If:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0You have a garden-variety cold but no fever. Exercise can help relieve you from stuffiness by opening up your nasal passages, says the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/healthy-lifestyle\/fitness\/expert-answers\/exercise\/faq-20058494\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mayo Clinic<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Your symptoms are above the neck like a runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing, or a slight sore throat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cKeep the intensity at a moderate-to-low pace,\u201d cautions Finely.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if you typically go for a 30-minute run every day, take a brisk walk instead. And if you start to feel worse with exercising, then you should stop, she says.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Skip Exercise With a Cold If:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>You have a fever, discomfort in your chest, or difficulty breathing.<\/li>\n<li>Your symptoms are below the neck, such as chest congestion, a hacking cough, or an upset stomach.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re tired, you\u2019re running a fever, or you\u2019re especially achy. \u201cI\u2019d suggest any patient refrain from exercise if fever is higher than 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit,\u201d says Finely. She points out that a fever is considered any temperature over 100 F. Exercising during this time increases the risk of dehydration, and can worsen or lengthen the duration of your cold, she explains.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A 2014 study in the journal Sports Health found that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4000470\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fever can have harmful effects on muscular strength and endurance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no great advantage in tiring yourself out when you\u2019re feeling ill. After all, you don\u2019t want to risk making yourself sicker. Taking a few days off shouldn\u2019t affect your overall performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you get back to exercise, make sure to gradually increase your level as you begin to feel better,\u201d Finely advises.<\/p>\n<p>Exercising during a cold can be beneficial, but don\u2019t push it.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, it can help flush bacteria out of your lungs and airways and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/medlineplus.gov\/ency\/article\/007165.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reduce your overall chances of getting a cold<\/a>\u00a0in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>The important thing is to listen to your body!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Should I Still Be Working Out When I\u2019m Sick?
