When you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/the-new-rules-of-strength-training-for-runners?referringrepid=1393\">increase your muscle mass<\/a>, you increase your metabolism \u2014 and you burn more calories.<\/p>\n<p>When you recover better, you can work out more \u2014 and you burn more calories. (Hmmm\u2026 are you seeing the same pattern I\u2019m seeing here?)<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How Can I Use Beachbody Performance to Support My Weight-Loss Regimen?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>One of the many cool aspects of BBP is its adaptability. The five products in the line \u2014 Energize, Hydrate, Recover, Recharge, and Creatine \u2014 can be put together in different arrangements called \u201cstacks\u201d to suit your needs.<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind that Beachbody recommends specific stacks for our various programs that might differ slightly from the advice I\u2019m giving here.<\/p>\n<p>Those recommendations were created to best serve most people doing those programs; what I\u2019m offering in this article are more \u201csub-suggestions\u201d\u2014 specific adaptions that work within the general recommendations to suit your individual goals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/beachbody-blog\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Can-Beachbody-Performance-Supplements-Be-Used.inpost3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-111695 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/beachbody-blog\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Can-Beachbody-Performance-Supplements-Be-Used.inpost3.jpg\" alt=\"Energize tub\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>How to Use Beachbody Performance Energize for Weight Loss<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The three key ingredients in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.teambeachbody.com\/shop\/-\/shopping\/BBPEnergize?ICID=BLOG_ENER&amp;referringrepid=1393&amp;refsource=Blog\">Energize<\/a>\u00a0are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4213371\/\">caffeine<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/19211721\">quercetin<\/a>, and beta alanine. It\u2019s a 15 to 30 calorie investment (dose depends on body weight) in kicking butt. The entire point of this supplement is to give you energy so that you can work out harder \u2014 and if you\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/7-tips-to-push-yourself-harder?referringrepid=1393\">work out harder<\/a>, you can burn more calories.<\/p>\n<p>Working your muscles and cardiovascular system more intensely can also boost your overall strength and aerobic fitness. When you sweat, you lose water and electrolytes.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.teambeachbody.com\/shop\/-\/shopping\/BBPHydrate?ICID=BLOG_HY&amp;referringrepid=1393&amp;refsource=Blog\">Hydrate<\/a>\u00a0is formulated to replenish both as effectively as possible while throwing in a few carbs to facilitate absorption and provide a little bonus blood sugar.<\/p>\n<p>Dehydration can inhibit your performance \u2014 and (at the risk of sounding redundant) performance is key to results. In long, intense situations, Hydrate will be\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/what-to-drink-during-your-workout?referringrepid=1393\">more effective than just plain water<\/a>\u00a0in offering balanced rehydration.<\/p>\n<p>But is it more effective during shorter workouts? If it\u2019s a sub 30-minute, low-intensity workout, probably not. If it\u2019s 30 to 60 minutes and higher intensity, it can play a role, but you\u2019re probably okay drinking straight water, unless you are a little dehydrated or find yourself bonking (running out of blood sugar [glucose] and glycogen) in the middle of your workout.<\/p>\n<p>A well-fed person should have enough blood sugar and glycogen (the stored form of glucose) to squeak through 90 minutes of exercise \u2014 although probably not at peak performance without additional hydration and, potentially, feeding.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re eating a low-calorie diet, you might run into fueling issues in even less time. Scientists call this process the \u201cpost-exercise muscle protein synthesis response,\u201d and drinking Recover right after you finish a workout provides the building blocks (amino acids) your muscles need to make the most of it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/should-you-be-using-whey-protein?referringrepid=1393\">Post-workout protein supplements<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 particularly whey protein \u2014 have been an athletic staple for years. If you start a program and wake up the next morning feeling worse for wear, odds are you could use Recover in your corner.<\/p>\n<p>But you don\u2019t need to wait for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/how-phytonutrients-may-help-reduce-exercise-induced-inflammation-and-their-other-benefits?referringrepid=1393\">delayed onset muscle soreness<\/a>\u00a0(DOMS) to set in before you decide to give it a try. If you pushed your limits in your workout, you very well could experience some level of DOMS, as well as weakness that might limit how hard you can push yourself during your next workout.<\/p>\n<p>Recover can help mitigate that issue before it becomes one. Studies show that it can\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/how-creatine-can-take-your-results-to-the-next-level?referringrepid=1393\">delay fatigue, boost muscle growth, and accelerate recovery<\/a>\u00a0(both between sets and workouts).<\/p>\n<p>While creatine has no negative impact on fat loss, one occasional side effect is temporary water retention \u2014 which can be demoralizing when you step on the scale.<\/p>\n<p>If that\u2019s going to stress you out, you might want to hold off on taking it until you\u2019ve hit your weight loss goal and want to really focus on increasing muscle mass.<\/p>\n<p>Also keep in mind that it takes a while (typically between a week and a month, depending on your daily dose) to build up enough creatine in your system to notice its performance-enhancing effects.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What About the Extra Calories?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As logical as all of this advice sounds, the liquid calories in BBP might still raise a red flag for those trying to lose weight. If you follow the guidelines above, you shouldn\u2019t worry.<\/p>\n<p>The targeted nature of these calories means they\u2019ll be used to help you achieve your goal. For example, Recover has 130 calories per serving, but if you\u2019re too beat down from your last workout to exercise properly during your next one (something Recover can help prevent), your caloric burn during that second workout could easily take a 130 (or more) calorie hit.<\/p>\n<p>In Beachbody\u2019s nutrition programs, we recommend you drink BBP\u00a0<em>in addition<\/em>\u00a0to your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/ask-the-expert-how-many-calories-should-i-be-eating?referringrepid=1393\">recommended caloric intake<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t be tempted to cheat this and pull proteins out of your meal plan to make room for Recover \u2014 especially if you\u2019re on a low-calorie plan. Yes, we recommend making\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.teambeachbody.com\/nutrition-shake\/shakeology?ICID=BLOG_SHK&amp;referringrepid=1393&amp;refsource=Blog\">Shakeology<\/a>\u00a0part of your recommended caloric intake since it can play a more flexible role in your eating plan, but BBP products play such a specific role that we elected to treat them differently.<\/p>\n<p>Also keep in mind that Beachbody nutrition programs are designed for a little caloric wiggle room, which allows for the calories in BBP.<\/p>\n<p>Consume them properly and they should help you\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/tips-for-building-muscle?referringrepid=1393\">get even more out of your workouts<\/a>. And the more you get out of your workouts, the better your results will be.
