There\u2019s no better time than the holiday season to enjoy family and friends, as well as the occasional extra helping of stuffing or\u00a0sweet treat. But what happens when the sofa suddenly sounds better than a super-sweaty workout?<\/p>\n<h2>5 Healthy Holiday Workout Tips to Stay Motivated and Fit<\/h2>\n<h3><strong>1. Buddy up\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>They\u2019re here! Your entire family, all in one place for the holidays. Or maybe it\u2019s your good friends visiting from out of town. Either way, our Master Trainers agree it\u2019s the perfect opportunity to pick a holiday\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/workout-buddy-types\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">workout buddy<\/a>, or even a workout group. Hey, the more, the merrier. \u201cGrab a family member(s) or friend(s) who will be your holiday buddy\u2014decide to maintain, not gain during the holiday season by doing workouts together, trying new fitness classes on your holiday days off,\u201d says Jessie Perry.<\/p>\n<p>Lana Holt says it\u2019s up to you to take the lead and have fun with it. \u201cMake fitness a family affair. (Take a) family hike or bike ride or family challenge! Keep your routine\u2026routine<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>You have a long list of places to go, presents to buy, and people to see. So maybe you don\u2019t have time to work out today. Tomorrow will work, right? Wrong. \u201cMake sure your workouts are still scheduled. Holidays don\u2019t mean a holiday from working out,\u201d says Matthew Taub. Claudia Rose Elfreich offers this simple, effective advice: \u201cPlan, plan, plan. Retreat from treats<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>For health enthusiasts and fitness aficionados, the holidays often present a predicament for their palate. They want to eat the tasty treats, but don\u2019t want the \u201cbenefits\u201d they provide (a.k.a., calories, fat, sugars, you name it). Master Trainers have been there and done that, so here\u2019s what they do now. \u201cBring food you know you can eat to parties! There are a lot of clean recipes out there!\u201d says April Adorno. That\u2019s what Heather Godfrey does. \u201cI make the healthy version of my favorite treats and bring those to parties with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They agree that you don\u2019t need to completely ditch the dessert; you can simply exercise portion control, \u00e0 la\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.teambeachbody.com\/workout-routines\/21-day-fix-workout?ICID=BLOG_21DF&amp;referringrepid=1393&amp;refsource=Blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">21 Day Fix<\/a>. \u201cDon\u2019t deny holiday treats BUT have a small portion and of course, be consistent in working out,\u201d says Michelle Olsen. Adds Stephanie Annas Johnson: \u201cModeration in everything. One Christmas cookie won\u2019t derail me, but 10 will.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>4. Plan short workouts<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>With so much happening during the holidays, it\u2019s easy to commit to everything but your workout. To compromise, commit to short workouts. \u201cTabata or HIIT workouts are great for getting your workout in with limited time,\u201d says Philicia Moll. Felicia Laba Taub focuses on \u201cefficient routines that are intense and take less time.\u201d And if you have it, she suggests \u201c30-45 minutes on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.teambeachbody.com\/bod-offer?ICID=BLOG_BOD&amp;referringrepid=1393&amp;refsource=Blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Beachbody On Demand<\/a>.\u201d Morning workouts.\u00a030-minute workouts. Eat before your big event<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Ahh, holiday delicacies. Turkey with all the trimmings. Dessert. How about another cup of eggnog? Missy Cornish likes to \u201ceat something healthy with a large glass of water before heading out to an event.\u201d Mandy Bear opts for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.teambeachbody.com\/nutrition-shake\/shakeology?ICID=BLOG_SHK&amp;referringrepid=1393&amp;refsource=Blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shakeology<\/a>\u00a0before attending gatherings. \u201cI show up pretty full and therefore don\u2019t feel the need to have a full plate.\u201d Katie Hake takes it one step further. \u201cSpoil your dinner! Fill up on veggies and fruit before dinner\/the party and bring your own healthy dish,\u201d she says. \u201cRemember, the holidays are more about spending quality time with the ones you love.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>And Here\u2019s One Bonus Tip!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s nearly impossible to avoid holiday shopping. So, Master Trainer Kam Niskach suggests turning it into your own form of exercise, but offers some advice to help keep your energy level high. \u201cHoliday shopping is cardio!\u201d she says. \u201cShopping on an empty stomach will just slow you down and pack on the pounds.
