{"id":2802,"date":"2012-09-28T08:48:19","date_gmt":"2012-09-28T15:48:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/howtobefit.com\/coach-blog\/?p=2802"},"modified":"2026-02-09T16:49:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T23:49:13","slug":"young","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/howtobefit.com\/coach-blog\/2012\/09\/28\/young\/","title":{"rendered":"Forever Young?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><div>After spending years in the lab, I  have come up with the formula for being forever young: \u00a0 Regular exercise  + good nutrition + positive lifestyle choices = forever young &#8211; or at  least quality of life for a longer period of time than most people think  possible. \u00a0 You know that&#8217;s not my formula and you know that I didn&#8217;t  spend years in the lab. \u00a0 That just comes from the teachings of the  school of common sense.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>We  need only look no farther from home than our very own Tony Horton. \u00a0 His  birthday, in case you didn&#8217;t know, is July 2, 1959. \u00a0 On Google Chrome  when you search for &#8220;Tony Horton&#8217;s birthday&#8221;, this box appears:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.howtobefit.com\/pics\/tony-sawyer-horton-fitness-guru.JPG\" alt=\"Tony Sawyer Horton\" width=\"400\" height=\"205\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Tony  is the picture of health and vitality and his body rivals anyones of  any age. \u00a0 Starting, I believe, in 2004 with the <a title=\"Great Body Guaranteed\" href=\"http:\/\/teambeachbody.com\/shop\/-\/shopping\/GreatBodyGtdDVD?referringRepId=1393\" target=\"_blank\">Great Body Guaranteed<\/a> series, the <a title=\"Power Half Hour\" href=\"http:\/\/teambeachbody.com\/shop\/-\/shopping\/PowerHalfHour?referringRepId=1393\" target=\"_blank\">Power Half Hour<\/a>, <a title=\"Power 90\" href=\"http:\/\/teambeachbody.com\/shop\/-\/shopping\/Power90?referringRepId=1393\" target=\"_blank\">Power 90<\/a>, <a title=\"P90X\" href=\"http:\/\/teambeachbody.com\/shop\/-\/shopping\/P90X?referringRepId=1393\" target=\"_blank\">P90X<\/a>, <a title=\"10 Minute Trainer\" href=\"http:\/\/teambeachbody.com\/shop\/-\/shopping\/10MinTrainer?referringRepId=1393\" target=\"_blank\">10 Minute Trainer<\/a> and now  <a title=\"P90X2\" href=\"http:\/\/teambeachbody.com\/shop\/-\/shopping\/X2-Base?referringRepId=1393\" target=\"_blank\">P90X2<\/a>, his physical prowess has been on display. \u00a0 What is his formula  for success? \u00a0 The same one that I stated above and he has tested it and  proved it throughout his career.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"http:\/\/dsc.discovery.com\/life\/interview-tony-horton-talks-p90x2-the-magic-of-yoga-and-training-for-extreme-sports.html\">Discovery Channel interview<\/a> he said, &#8220;I  was a tackling dummy when I played high school football, I never got  into an actual game. I also didn&#8217;t make the tennis team. And I didn&#8217;t  have the lung capacity to play basketball. Then, when I was in college, I  got it: you need to do this at least 5 days a week. And train and  practice. Everything changed.&#8221; \u00a0 That is when he got it.<\/p>\n<p>What does Tony also say about beating Father Time? \u00a0 &#8220;Two  things we lose when we get older are speed and balance. Traditional  exercises don&#8217;t address this. You just do the same movements over and  over. Boring. Plateaus and injury are coming if you keep doing that. You  need to move in multiple directions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.howtobefit.com\/pics\/tony-horton-medicine-ball-pushups.jpg\" alt=\"Tony Horton Medicine Ball Push Ups\" width=\"306\" height=\"248\" \/>He goes on to say, &#8220;What we do is inside training for the outside world. \u00a0 After having a plan and a purpose, the magic is 3 things:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>1. Variety:<\/em><\/strong> If  you&#8217;re a fast twitch guy, do some slow twitch exercises. Add in things  that will help you do what activities you want to do, better. Work on  your strengths and the things you love, but also add in things you&#8217;re  weaker at. That&#8217;s key.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>2. Consistency: <\/em><\/strong>Again, 5 days is the minimum, 6 is ideal. And you&#8217;ll stop the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153on and off\u00e2\u20ac\u009d nightmare most people have.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>3. Intensity: <\/em><\/strong>Push  the envelope a little bit. It shouldn&#8217;t be easy. But make sure you have  good form, pay attention while you&#8217;re doing it, and don&#8217;t train to get  hurt.<\/p>\n<p>The choice is yours as Tony says in his final comment in the interview, &#8220;Watching American Idol makes you an idle American.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s  it going to be, idle or an &#8220;idol&#8221; like Tony Horton?
