Fear of Failure
Sometimes the
Internet can be such a journey of discovery. This morning, I was researching to
find out who said, "The speed of the leader determines the rate of the pack" so
that I could share the source of the quote with my team of coaches (the answer
is D.
Wayne Lukas). On a blog site that had the answer, I just happened to see a
link to another quote that I clicked on and it was from Martin Luther. The
quote is, "Who waits until circumstances completely favor his undertaking will
never accomplish anything" and it very much applies to us. As a loving
reminder, if you want to accomplish things in terms of health, fitness, weight
loss and making positive lifestyle choices, why wait? The time will never be
just right. As Phil Knight would say, just do it!
From that blog, my
"fingertip journey" then took me to a search of the Martin Luther quote and the
first result was the one below:
Departing from the
original content that I normally send you, I wanted you to be able to read the
devotional itself, keeping in mind that if you truly want results from your
workout and nutrition programs that it will take hard work. As Pastor Terry
Covey says, "No doubt there were times when the servant felt led to take his
masters money and do something productive with it. Yet the fear of
failure held him back and as a result he not only accomplished nothing, he
was also severely rebuked." The complete text of what I read is below. To go to

Hard Work
Ecclesiastes
11:4 - If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done. 6
Be sure to stay busy and plant a variety of crops, for you never know which
will grow perhaps they all will.
It was Martin
Luther of the 16th century, who said He who waits until
circumstances completely favor his undertaking, will never accomplish
anything.
Jesus once told a
story about a landowner, who before leaving on a trip, called his servants and
entrusted each with a portion of his estate. After returning from his trip, the
man called for his servants and required each to give an account of what they
had done. It was discovered that two of the servants had taken what was given
them and doubled it! Yet the third could not report such success. When the man
asked for an explanation, the servant replied I was afraid I would
lose your money, so I hid it in the earth and here it is. (Mt 25:25)
Better to be
safe than sorry the servant thought. Yet that is not how the landowner
viewed his servants actions. But the master replied, You
wicked and lazy servant! (Mt 25:26)
The King James
Version uses the word slothful to describe the servant. The word
slothful means hesitant. No doubt there were times when the servant felt led to
take his masters money and do something productive with it. Yet the fear
of failure held him back and as a result he not only accomplished nothing, he
was also severely rebuked.
So often we blame
God whenever we do not see the success in our lives that we see in others. Yet
the truth is, our failures have more to do with our fears than with Gods
partiality. Solomon said If you wait for perfect conditions, you
will never get anything done.
That's It For Today...

Any crisis we face
is a test. How will we respond? What actions will we take? What will our faith
in God mean to us and to others in that moment of crisis? Daniel and his
friends faced their moment of crisis when the King of Babylon's insomnia became
their worst nightmare. As they faced the possibility of their own death, they
used the situation to display their life-giving faith. Let's consider how we
can step up to life's difficulties and use them as spiritual opportunities.
